This is one of the four patterns of the Greater Yang stage, the fourth stage of the Six Stages theory.
In this pattern the External Pathogen has created an accumulation of Heat in the Bladder and the Lower Burner. In this pattern, the Heat has reached the Blood level.
This accumulation itself causes the hypogastric distension and fullness.
Since Heat is in the Blood level, this leads to characteristic symptoms such as the blood in urine and restlessness of the Mind. As a reminder, the Blood plays a large role in harboring the Mind and any Heat leads to mental disturbance.
Precursor patterns: Greater Yang Accumulation of Blood can derive from Bright Yang Stomach Heat Bright Yang Fire in Stomach and Intestines
External pathogenic factor: The main cause of this pattern is when an external pathogen, typically Wind-Cold, has invaded the Exterior
Diagnosing a pattern in Chinese Medicine is no easy feat and should be left to professional practitioners. In particular one has to know how to differentiate between different types of pulses and tongue coatings, shapes and colors as well as learn to read from a long list of seemingly unrelated symptoms.
